Happy Veterans Day!  I’d like to say a big Thank You to all the Veterans out there who have served our great country.  I’d like to thank all those soldiers who are currently serving as well.  I am proud to say that I am the daughter of a U.S. Army Veteran.  If you have a Veteran or a Soldier in your life, be sure to say thanks.

Now, on to the topic of the day…

Growing Pains

What teenage girl in the 80’s didn’t have a crush on Kirk Cameron?  This girl did!  From 1985-1992 Kirk Cameron’s face adorned many a magazine cover, and in turn, ended up on many bedroom walls, all thanks to “Growing Pains”!

Kirk Cameron

Without a doubt, Kirk Cameron was the breakout star of the show.  In 1987, he became a born-again Christian and things on the set and behind the scenes got a little hairy.  He did meet his future wife, Chelsea Noble, when she guest starred on the show, but because of his newfound convictions, he made life for some of his co-workers a living hell.  Actress Julie McCollough was fired after Cameron found out about her posing in Playboy and demanded her character written out of the show.  He also called the president of ABC and accused three of the show’s producers of being pornographers, simply because he didn’t like the slightly more adult themes the episodes were tackling.  Thos three men quit the show the next year.  Cameron apologized to his cast mates during the filming of the 2000 reunion movie.

Trivia and Fun Facts

  • Tracey Gold suffered from anorexia nervosa and the many references to her character, Carol, being fat, triggered her disease and caused her to miss most of the final season.
  • Mike was older than Carol, but in real life, Tracey Gold is more than a year older than Kirk Cameron.
  • Leonardo Dicaprio was added to the cast in the seventh season in an effort to boost the ratings, but it didn’t work.
  • The Family's last name was Seaver and they had neighbors named Koosman. Tom Seaver and Jerry Koosman were teammates on the New York Mets during the '60s and '70s. The show takes place on Long Island so it's likely that the creators were Mets fans.
  • Chrissy “magically” aged five years in 1990 to make the character seven years old.

Brad Pitt

What does Brad Pitt have to do with “Growing Pains”?
