Welcome to Dana’s 80’s
TV Sitcom Week!!! Each day this week, I will be bringing you little tidbits
about my favorite TV shows growing up! Those of you who are my age and
older, sit back and enjoy the walk down memory lane. Those of you who
aren’t old enough to appreciate good 80’s television, pay attention, you
might learn something. Well, here we go!
Mr. Belvedere
The first show we’re
talking about this week is
“Mr. Belvedere.” The Owens family placed an ad for a live-in nanny and
Mr. Belvedere answered. He was actually using them as inspiration for a
novel he was planning on writing. Each episode ended with Belvedere
reliving the day’s experiences with his “typical American family” and
writing in his journal. I watched it all the time, as did everyone, so I
thought. Throughout its six season run, “Mr. Belvedere” never rated in the
top 30 shows on television.
Stewie and Mr. Belvedere
Who knew Stewie was a
“Mr. Belvedere” fan?
Mr. Belvedere Fun Facts
“Mr. Belvedere” was
based on a novel written by Gwen Davenport in
1947 entitled Belvedere and made in to a movie in 1948 starring
Clifton Webb and titled “Sitting
Pretty”.
In 1987, the show was
cancelled, but due to high interest by fans, it was brought back for
three more seasons.
Bob Uecker (George Owens) played six seasons of Major League
Baseball for three different teams. He is also the radio broadcaster
for the Milwaukee Brewers and has been for 33 years.
Christopher Hewett, who unfortunately passed away in 2001, was in
the Original Broadway Cast of “My Fair Lady” as the character "Zoltan Karpathy".
