Golden Girls
Trivia
As I sit here
at the computer, looking for things to post,
The Golden Girls is on
TV. I LOVE the Golden Girls. They make me happy. When my friends
and I get older, we are going to BE the Golden Girls. So, I thought
I’d dig up a little bit of Golden Girls trivia for you to enjoy!
·
Bea Arthur, who played Dorothy, is one year older than Estelle
Getty, who played Sophia, Dorothy’s mother.
·
Originally, Rue McClanahan was set to play naïve Rose, and Betty
White was to play the more worldly Blanche. Both women felt the
roles they had been cast in were too similar to roles they had
played previously on television, so they switched for the first read
through. Producers liked the switch, and it stayed!
·
Bea Arthur HATES cheesecake.
·
Dorothy has two children: Kate and Michael. Blanche has six
children: Matthew, Janet, Biff, Doug, Skippy and Rebecca. Rose has
four children: Adam, Janella, Kirsten and Bridget. Sophia has three
children: Dorothy, Phil, and Gloria.
·
The writers of the show always tried to give Sophia the raciest
lines. They did this because her character had a stroke earlier in
life, which made her unable to control the things she was able to
say.
·
The Golden Girls theme song, “Thank You for Being a Friend” was
written and recorded by Andrew Gold in 1978. It was re-recorded for
the show by Cynthia Fee.
·
All four women won at least one Emmy Award through the run of the
show.
·
Quentin Tarantino played an Elvis impersonator in two episodes.
Now, you go get
the plates, I’ll get the cheesecake. Don’t worry about the whipped
cream; it’s in Blanche’s room.
