So, after the
Lite Brite toy, and the ENTIRE
Nintendo post, I am still feeling just a little nostalgic about my
childhood. Perhaps it’s because I recently turned 30, and when I was a kid,
30 was OLD. Or, maybe it’s because I have a baby now, and he wasn’t even
born in the same millennium as me. How will I explain the Cheesy Goodness
that was the 80’s? That was back in the day, before
YouTube and
MySpace, and whatever is going to be the “in” thing when he is a
teenager. He will never know the joy of a
Mork and Mindy metal lunch box, or collecting
smurf figurines, or playing with
He-Man action figures. All he will have is my memory, which is getting
less and less dependable by the day. Ask my husband!
Are You a Child
of the 80’s?
I was born in 1978. That means I was alive and old
enough to appreciate all the cool stuff that was just for kids in the 80’s.
If you were born in 1987, you are NOT a child of the 80’s. Stop reading
right now and come back tomorrow. I’m sure I will be back in 2008 by then.
I’m sure that if
you truly ARE a child of the 80’s then you’ve received the e-mail titled
“Children of the 80’s” or something like that. Well, I scoured the Web and
found, what I think is a comprehensive list of things that should bring back
memories. You can read the entire list
HERE, but I’ve picked out my favorites for you:
Your first
date took you to the roller rink and you held hands for "Couples Only"
skate.
You wanted
to be on Star Search.
Your dream
car was either: the A-team van, KITT or The General Lee.
You think
there should be a Kids Incorporated original cast reunion.
You remember
exactly where you were when you heard the space shuttle had exploded.
You know who
Spuds McKenzie, The Noid, and Joe Isuzu are.
You watched
Mary Lou Retton win the gold.
In many of
your childhood photos you are wearing something plaid.
You owned a
bicycle with a banana seat and a basket.
You had
homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color.
Once you’ve
finished with that list, you can find another one
HERE, only this one is a list of reasons for us to feel old.
Last week, when I posted the Lite Brite toy, I
implored you, my loyal readers to find me an Etch-a-Sketch. Lo and Behold,
one of you did!! My good buddy Karzak sent me one to share with all of you!
